Victorian Experience at The Heritage Centre

Key Stage 1/2 History

10am - 2pm

The Victorian Schoolroom

Dress up as a Victorian and re-enact a typical lesson with Ma'am (rote learning, use of slates and dip pens). 

"Weaver's Cottage"

Weaver's CottageThe room we call The Weaver’s Cottage demonstrates the hardship of Victorian living, bath-time and washday and a comparison between rich and poor costumes and toys.
Children will play with Victorian mill toys too.

Object Handling

Discover the names and uses of unusual Victorian artefacts, a hands-on experience giving a comparison of then and now.

Note: Our special 'Victorian Christmas' package runs from November through to December each year.  Our parlour maid tells you all about Christmas celebrations for rich and poor, the lesson in the school room includes carol singing and our craft activity is cracker making - a Victorian invention.
