World War Two Experience at The Heritage Centre

Key Stage 1/2 History

10am - 2 pm

Learn about the hardships of the second world war with blackouts, gas masks, air raids and food rationing.

Billeting Office

Interact with our Billeting Officer and experience aspects of evacuation (based upon actual events in Macclesfield). Compare life on the 'Home Front' with life today.

Object Handling

Handle and identify genuine and reproduction artefacts. Look at silk items made in Macclesfield and decode secret messages!

Make do and Mend

Explore the effect of the shortages, the 'salvage' campaign including the 'COGS' organisation for children. Recycle rags and produce a mini-rug.
