As well as an active programme of exhibitions and a programme of music and film at the Heritage Centre, the museum organises special craft club sessions for young people each half term and runs study days and craft activities for adults too.

Park Lane Galleries - Free entry to museum and the first day of the Embroiderers Guild Exhibition

September 11th - October 12th 2010 Exhibition -   FREEDOM TO STITCH 

The Embroiderers Guild is pleased to have the opportunity to exhibit contemporary pieces of embroidery, applique and quilting from its permanent collection as part of a special exhibition programme.  The exhibition reflects the range of inspiration of the collection.  Many textile artists are represented from contemporary embroiderer Alice Kettle to Rebecca Crompton from the 1930s whos 'Teatime' is illustrated.   Silk Museum, Park Lane, Macclesfield SK11 6TJ   Monday - Saturday 11am - 5pm  £2.00

September 27th 'Embroidered Originals' - A Wearable Art - Lecture by Sue Rangeley at the Heritage Centre, Roe Street, Macclesfield SK11 6UT  7pm  Admission  £2

.  The book ‘Embroidered Originals’  is a soft back, 96 pages and 120 images, published  by d4daisy Books Ltd Price £19.   All of the fashion embroidery pieces within the book were created by Sue, with accompanying text.  The majority of the textiles are in silk, which Sue has used in her work since the first creations made for the designer Bill Gibb.  International exhibitions and teaching in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and in 1993 a solo show have brought her wider recognition.  Examples of Sues work are in public collections worldwide from the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne to the Embroiderers Guild, Hampton Court, London, a selected member of the prestigious Crafts Council Index (UK) since 1978.  Her textiles have been featured in films, television and international publications

 

September 28th FLORAL EMBELLISHMENTS - Workshop 9.30am for 10am - 1pm  £15

Embroidery Workshop with Sue Rangeley.  Create floral corsages with silk sheers and machine embroidery.  Demonstrations of techniques, as featured in Sues book, Embroidered Originals.  Inspiring ideas for applique sheers, fabric painting, machine embroidery, rouleaux.  At the Heritage Centre, Roe Street, Macclesfield SK11 6UT. 9th October Memories are made of this... 'Picture This' Workshop  10.00 for 10.30am - 4pm.  £30  This workshop will be held at the Heritage Centre, Roe Street, Macclesfield SK11 6UT and gives participants the opportunity to look at some of the Museum's reserve collection and displays in detail, to share knowledge and learn, and to participate in a relevant practical session.  The workshop is limited to 15 people and designed for those who have an interest in Textiles and some experience in sewing.  By the end of the workshop you will have designed and partly made a picture that is a reminder of family, friends or places. For booking please phone 01625 612045 . 

26th October Screen Printed Buttons Workshops at the Silk Museum, Park Lane, Macclesfield SK11 6TJ  9.30am - 12.30pm or 1.30pm -4.30pm.  Children aged 8+ accompanied by an adult.  All materials supplied.  Joint cost of £15 child + adult or £3 on proof of benefit recipients

27th and 28th October - Childrens Half Term Craft Club for children age 6 - 11 years Perfect Patterns - 10am - 12 noon each day in the Education Room, Silk Museum, Park Lane, Macclesfield SK11 6TJ

Wednesday 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th November  10am - 12 noon 'HAVE A DABBLE' A course of Four Art and Craft taster sessions for ADULT BEGINNERS ONLY.  Our experienced Art teacher will lead you through techniques such as stencilling/collage and the use of water colours/pastels (basic materials provided)  £50.   Booking essential on 01625 612045

4th November Memories are made of this'.. 'Unfolding the Past' 10.00 for 10.30am - 4pm .  £30   This workshop will be held at the Heritage Centre, Roe Street, Macclesfield SK11 6UT and gives participants the opportunity to look at some of the Museum's reserve collection and displays in detail, to share knowledge and learn, and to participate in a relevant practical session.  The workshop is limited to 15 people who have an interest in Textiles and some experience in sewing.  By the end of the workshop you will have designed and partly made a fabric hanger or soft container to house your collection, (as a reminder of family, friends or places).
